Tennis Cincinnati Singles Ladder

The "ladder" is Tennis Cincinnati's intramural singles competition. Both men and women compete against other members of similar experience and ability.  Please be aware that the Ladder is friendly competition of players that enjoy frequent and consistent play of at least one match a week.  When you enter the ladder, you must be willing and able to keep your play and match schedule current.

Matches are played weekly starting May 1, 2011 until end of season - approximately week of August 8th for a total of approximately 14 scheduled matches during the ladder season.  We will break the week of the CNKY Memorial Classic Tournament.  At the end of the season, there will be a playoff to determine a winner starting the week of August 15th.  To qualify for the tournament - you must have completed and reported at least eight (8) of the scheduled matches.  Each registrant has the responsibility of checking your email for the weekly schedule.  Contact with your weekly competitor and scheduling of matches is the responsibility of EACH participant in the ladder.

Upon completion of the match, the winner is responsible for reporting the score. Scores will be posted via email and it is responsibility of each member to report and verify all scores are accurate.

General Rules of the Ladder:

  • Ladder matches are played using the standard rules of the United States Tennis Association (USTA).  Matches are best of three sets with a standard 12-point tiebreak (first to seven points winning by two) at six games all.
  • Depending on number of players that sign up, divisions will be created in each of Men's and Women's Advanced, Intermediate and Recreation.  Classification of those divisions is explained on the registration form.
  • Each player is assigned a "number" upon registration.  A schedule will be posted via a weekly email that show the matches for the week for the two players represented by player numbers (e.g., Player 1 vs Player 6 for week 1)
  • The ladder is open to all that have registered with Tennis Cincinnati.net.  Players live in the greater Cincinnati - Northern Kentucky - Dayton metropolitan area.  Please be mindful of distances when scheduling playing sites.
  • The player with the lower number in the match for the week (Player 1 in the example above) is responsible for bringing a can of new balls to the match.  If that player wins the match, the higher number player (Player 6 in the example) provides a replacement can of balls to the winner.

Reporting Scores:

  • The winner of each match is responsible for reporting the ladder results within 24 hours of match play by emailing the Ladder coordinator (kwoodsc@gmail.com).  Please provide the following information:
    • Date of match
    • Winner's and Loser's Name
    • Match Score
  • If the match is a make up match (match scheduled to play earlier in the season) - please indicate when the match was supposed to be played.
  • Set winners are awarded a point for each set won in the match.  Total number of points is tabulated at end of season to set up "seeds" or rank for playoffs.  Top seed will play the lowest seed and so on.  In the event of players with the same number of points in a division, the number of games won for the season will be the tiebreaker.
  • Challenge matches (non-scheduled matches) are allowed between members to earn additional points or for players to "catch up" that enter the ladder mid-point of season.  Only one challenge match is allowed per four-week period and only if you have played your required matches for the four-week period.
  • If a player is injured or unable to play the match for the week, he or she is able to forfeit.  If a forfeit is called, the winner will receive two points and 6-0, 6-0 match score.  Two forfeits are allowed for the season before the player is taken off the Ladder.
  • For forfeits, both the winner AND loser must report the forfeit score to the Ladder coordinator.

If you have questions or need clarification of rules, please contact Keith Wood,  Ladder Coordinator at kwoodsc@gmail.com or 513-432-3342.
